The main thing we use this for:
Identifying all the destinations an airline flies to - usually to map out options for our routes in business class with specific airlines.
Why?
It saves us a lot of time in searching for availability. Booking with cash you’re searching from A → B. Booking with points often leads to better results if you use a different process:
- understand which airlines you can book with your points
- understand where those airlines fly to
- search for your trip based on airline routes (instead of simply A → B)
ℹ️ There are 2 common scenarios where we use this website:
1 - we already have points:
- We have points with a specific program
- We know which airline we want to book with those points
- We check on flightconnections which destinations those airlines fly to
- Then start searching for availability - filtering only for the destinations we have identified through flightconnections
- book the flights
2 - we don’t have points yet:
- A points program has a sale on points - so we need to decide if to buy
- We check which airlines that point program gets access to
- We identify our favorite or desired airline(s) we want to fly
- We go to flightconnections to see where those airlines fly to
- If any of the destinations match with our plans, we start looking for availability based on the destinations we found on flightconnections
- book the flights
🔎 Example:
We recently bought Aeroplan Points in order to book Singapore Airlines. We know this offers amazing value when booked in advance.
→ We’re planning a trip to Europe next year → so either we want to fly from Asia to Europe, or from Europe back to Asia. → But we don’t know exactly which destinations Singapore Airlines fly to.
→ So instead of searching for every destination we can think of in Europe, we check flightconnections to see the network of destinations Singapore Airlines flies to → Now its easy for us to see if we want to ARRIVE in one of the European cities, or DEPART from one of those European cities.
