🛩️ Qatar Avios Overview
Avios is our favorite points currency to buy/earn for a few reasons. Multiple Airlines - One Currency Avios is unique because multiple airlines use Avios as their points currency, including Qatar Airways, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Aer Lingus. You can transfer your Avios between these airline programs instantly and freely.
Easy to stack It is a lot easier to earn through flying / shopping portals in multiple countries, and the frequency of sales/discounts on Avios is also good since you can buy them from any of the airlines mentioned.
Premium Airlines One World is in our opinion the best premium alliance, and you can book all One World airlines with Avios, often at very good prices. Qatar Airways (Best Airline in the World 2025) offers incredibly good value for long haul redemptions in its famous “QSuite” cabin. If we had to choose only 1 program and stick with it, it would be Avios.

✈️ Qatar Avios: Your Cheat Sheet
This is primarily focused on Qatar Airways, NOT British Airways or Finnair
Stacking Avios through Earning & Buying is considerably easy:
- Earning Avios (without flying) - Use shopping portals to earn loads of points when shopping online. The Avios shopping portal (which is linked to your British Airways Account) is especially great for booking hotels / experiences. E.g. booking Agoda currently earns 10 avios per 1 GBP spent. If you live in the UK its also amazing for buying everything from tech to beauty.
- Qatar Airways, Iberia, Finnair and Aer Lingus also all have “shopping partners” where you can earn Avios on purchases - but we would only consider these if you live in Qatar, Spain, Finland or Ireland
- Buying Avios - Since Avios is the airline currency of multiple airlines, there are a decent amount of opportunities each year to buy Avios at a good price to redeem for long-haul Qsuite and other amazing business class redemptions
- “Boosting” Avios - Both Qatar and British Airways allow you to “boost” Avios you have earned through flying/shopping portal (within the past 30-90 days), usually at very competitive prices too. Another good way to add to the balance if you’re looking for cheap points to book a flight.
- Avios Subscription - Qatar Airways introduced the “Qatar Privilege Club Pro” which is a monthly subscription to buy Avios at a fixed rate. The “exclusive” plan, paid annually instead of monthly, allows you to get 15,000 avios per month trickling into your account, at a price of $13,33 per 1000. Which is on par with some of the best deals of the year. The only downside is you can’t buy a lot at once, its 15k pts per month.
- Avios Subscription (British Airways) - Avios.com (British Airways Account Login) has it’s own Subscription option as well, which offers the same price when purchasing the “adventurer” subscription (200k avios / year) on the annual basis for £1,989. At today’s exchange rate (11th Jan 2026) that price is $13,33 per 1000 points. The downside is the same as with Qatar’s subscription - You can’t get all points at once.
Availability:
- Generally Good availability for Qatar Airways - if you book 9-12 months in advance you can often find the exact flights you want at regular (non-flexi) pricing. Availability for partner airlines and one world members is okay.
Booking Qsuite
- For flying Qsuite, booking directly with Qatar Airways is your best bet. Keep in mind, if you book Qsuite on points and your aircraft is changed (to non Qsuite), you can contact customer service to change your flight to a Qsuite option for no additional charge. American Airlines is another good way to book Qsuite, but AA miles are harder to earn / more expensive to buy.
Very Competitive Prices
- Qatar Airways doesn’t have a public “award chart” for its own flights, instead it has fixed prices between specific destinations. Usually when these are the “normal” fare, they offer incredible value.
- When flights are marked as “flexi” it means they are double the normal price. They can occassionally offer good value but we never book these - we prefer to work shuffle dates/location to get better “non-flexi” fares.
Good Partners + Partner Award Chart
- Qatar Airways has a strong network of partner airlines, including Cathay, Japan Airlines (JAL), American Airlines, etc. The prices on the partner award chart are also competitive and can unlock amazing value (especially short-mid haul)
Points Sale Frequency + Buying Points
💸 Normal Price for Avios Points (depends on program) = $0.021-$0.026 per point
🗓️ Sale Frequency: Avios usually has a good sale or bonus on points every 2-4 months (frequency varies since there are multiple programs)
🤑 Best Recent Deal (2025): 50% Discount on Finnair ($12.14 per 1000) & 70% Bonus on Qatar ($13.50 per 1000)
BUYING POINTS:
✅ When to Buy: When cost per 1000 pts is $12.14-$14.00
❌ When NOT to buy: When cost per 1000pts is ≥ $14.00 (or $14.50) we recommend waiting for a better deal
ℹ️ Nuance: If you need the points for a certain flight you have your eye on, then of course paying ≥$14.00 can still get you high value. Especially if you have a good Qatar Airways redemption in mind already.
